Legalizing Mezzanine Spaces in Commercial Warehouses
Storage space can be hard to find in business spaces so many businesses turn to the use of mezzanines. Unfortunately the majority of these storage spaces don’t meet the egress requirements and size/distances set by the Fire Code. This is what tends to be the biggest hurdle in legalizing these spaces and without an experienced architect you will most likely run out of time and be issued fines.
If the mezzanine space is being used as office space then an additional series of calculations are required (aside from Structural and Life Safety calculations). You will most likely also require a parking analysis and a Heat Load Calculation to assure that your current mechanical system can handle the additional load.
